📚 Bookish Self-Care Saturday: How to Unwind With a Good Book and a Little Indulgence

Happy Saturday, fellow book lovers!
The workweek is behind us, the to-do list can wait, and it’s time to lean into the softer, slower part of life: self-care, bookworm style. 💆‍♀️📖

If you’re like me, self-care doesn’t always mean a bubble bath and candles (although I won’t say no to those). Sometimes, it’s about carving out a little space to reconnect with yourself through quiet moments, comforting stories, and maybe a steaming mug of something delicious.

So today, I’m sharing my favorite bookish self-care ritual—plus a few book recs that feel like warm blankets for the soul.

☕ Step 1: Set the Mood

The first step is to create a cozy, distraction-free environment. Here’s how I prep my perfect reading corner:

  • ✨ Light a favorite candle (mine’s “Old Books & Vanilla”)
  • 🎶 Play soft instrumental music (I love lo-fi or rainy café playlists)
  • 🍫 Grab a snack that feels like a treat (chocolate-covered almonds, anyone?)
  • 📱 Put my phone on “do not disturb” for at least 30 minutes

Sometimes I even wrap myself in a blanket burrito just for the vibe.

📖 Step 2: Choose a Comfort Read

Self-care reading doesn’t have to be deep, intense, or even new. In fact, comfort often means familiarity.

Here are a few of my go-to self-care reads:

  • 🪻 The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune – for whimsical magic and found family feels
  • 🍵 Before the Coffee Gets Cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi – time travel + tenderness
  • 📚 84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff – a charming slice of bookish correspondence
  • 🌸 Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery – timeless, wholesome, and hopeful
  • 💕 The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood – for when I need a nerdy, fluffy romance fix

Re-reads are fair game here too! There’s no better way to soothe the soul than revisiting a story that once healed you.

🧠 Step 3: Let Go of the Guilt

You don’t have to be productive today.
You don’t have to finish the book.
You don’t even have to read something “smart.”
Reading for joy is enough.

Sometimes the most radical act of self-care is allowing yourself to just… enjoy something.

🌼 Optional Add-Ons:

  • Journal a few thoughts after a meaningful chapter
  • Share a quote from your book in your stories (tag me if you do!)
  • Try reading in a new spot—outside, in bed, even on the floor by a sunny window

💬 Let’s Chat:
