Review: His Grace, The Duke by Emily Rath

There’s something so satisfying about returning to characters who already feel like old friends—and His Grace, The Duke delivers exactly that kind of experience. In this continuation of Rath’s Regency “why choose” series, we’re pulled back into a world of scandal, longing, complicated loyalties, and a romance that refuses to fit neatly into a box. If you’ve been invested in these characters from the start, this installment feels like slipping back into a story that never really let go of you in the first place.

From the very first pages, Rath reestablishes the emotional stakes with ease. The relationships remain layered and dynamic, balancing tenderness with tension in a way that keeps you turning pages. The push and pull between duty and desire continues to take center stage, and the chemistry? Still absolutely simmering. What really stands out here, though, is how the story evolves—this isn’t just more of the same. It deepens, it expands, and it asks bigger questions about love, choice, and what it means to build a life that defies expectation.

One of my favorite parts of this book was simply getting to be with these characters again. Their voices are so distinct, their connections so charged, that every interaction feels meaningful. Rath has a way of writing relationships that feel both indulgent and emotionally grounded, and that balance shines here. The drama is delicious, but it never overshadows the heart of the story.

And that ending? Genuinely satisfying. Rath takes the time to wrap things up in a way that feels earned, giving readers the emotional payoff we’ve been craving. Nothing feels rushed or thrown together—it’s thoughtful, intentional, and leaves you with that warm, full feeling that only a well-finished story can give.

If I had one small critique, it’s that there are moments where the pacing dips slightly under the weight of everything being resolved. But honestly, when you’re this invested, it’s a minor trade-off for the kind of closure we get.

Devour or Nibble?
Devour. If you’ve been following this series, this is the kind of conclusion that rewards your emotional investment—and if you haven’t started yet, consider this your sign to indulge.
