There’s something ridiculously addictive about a fantasy romance that knows exactly what it is, leans fully into the chaos, and still manages to make you emotionally invested in every sharp-tongued interaction along the way. The Dark Lord’s Guide to Dating (And Other War Crimes) delivers exactly that kind of experience — witty, dramatic, charmingly unhinged, and packed with characters that completely stole my attention from page one.
For readers who love morally gray disasters, chaotic banter, fantasy politics, and romance threaded through danger and absurdity, this one absolutely scratches that itch. The story follows a dark lord navigating war, power, and unexpectedly complicated feelings, all while trying not to completely lose control of the carefully cultivated image surrounding him. What unfolds is a blend of fantasy romance and comedy with surprisingly heartfelt moments tucked beneath all the sarcasm and mayhem.

The strongest part of this book was easily the characters. I thoroughly loved them. Every interaction felt alive, every conversation had bite, and the banter carried so much personality that I found myself grinning through entire scenes. Tiffany Hunt created a cast that feels chaotic in the best possible way — flawed, entertaining, messy, and somehow still incredibly lovable. The chemistry between characters felt natural, and even the smaller moments helped deepen the relationships in ways that kept me invested the entire time.
The humor also landed beautifully for me. The tone balances dark fantasy elements with self-awareness and sharp dialogue without ever feeling forced. One moment you’re laughing at a ridiculous exchange, and the next you’re genuinely invested in the emotional stakes underneath it all. That balance is hard to pull off, but this book handled it surprisingly well.
I also genuinely enjoyed the storyline itself. The pacing kept me engaged, the world was interesting, and there was always enough happening to keep the momentum moving. There were definitely a few lingering questions by the end — moments where I wanted a little more explanation or clarity — but honestly, I found them pretty easy to overlook because I was having such a good time with the characters and overall experience.
What did frustrate me? That ending.
That cliffhanger absolutely got me. I closed the book both satisfied and offended in equal measure because now I’m stuck waiting for the sequel after becoming fully attached to these chaotic little disasters. It’s the kind of ending that makes you immediately want the next book in your hands.
If you’re looking for a fantasy romance that mixes humor, tension, lovable chaos, and fantastic character dynamics, this one is definitely worth picking up.
Devour or Nibble?
Devour. The characters and banter alone make this worth the ride, and even with a few lingering questions, the fun and chemistry completely carried the story for me. Just be prepared to scream a little when you hit that cliffhanger.
